The Candlelight Concert Society began its new season with a wonderful concert “Hanzhi Wang, accordion” at the Smith Theatre at the Horowitz Visual & Performing Arts Center at Howard Community College in Columbia, MD. If anyone can make the accordion sound like it was created to play classical music, it is the talented and young Ms. Wang.

Hanzhi Wang, the first accordionist to win a place on the roster of Young Concert Artists in its 58-year history, will perform at the University of Alabama at Birmingham on Wednesday, Oct. 2. The 7 p.m. performance is presented by UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center as part of its ArtPlay Parlor Series. Tonight the Young Artists Showcase features a studio performance by and conversation with accordionist Hanzhi Wang. The first accordionist to win a place on the roster of Young Concert Artists in the organization's 58-year history, Hanzhi Wang talked about her path to the instrument, and also how it works. Her program featured her own accordion arrangements of Bach, Mozkowski, Mozart, and a piece written for her by Martin Lohse.
